Reading Lamp Mission

My name is Paul Carrier. Over six years ago during a mission trip to Haiti, I was introduced to Jean Bernard, a Christian brother and native of Haiti. With Jean's help, Reading Lamp has adopted one of the pastors and his church. When I first walked into the mission field ,I did not have a clue as to what I was doing. All it took for me was a picture of a man asking to come and meet with him and a contact number. The next thing I new, I was on a plane to Haiti and introduced to a bunch of people I had never met nor could I speak their language. We piled into a pickup truck and drove up into the mountains for two weeks of Haitian Christian fellowship. When the Holy Spirit says go, just do it! We have improved things tremendously since then. Do you or a group have a call for this work but don’t have a contact person? Please read on.

These are only some of the pastors we work with. They have asked us to send out offers for you to come and meet with them. They have churches to build, many orphaned children needing to go to school, and brothers and sisters who need a hand up, not a hand out.

For the past 3 years, we have made the town of Port-Salut our home base. With Pastor Joseph's help and through his youth ministry in conjunction with ten other pastors, we received the blessing and permission to become part of their fellowship. This took four years of trial and error on my part. I believe the Holy Spirit was using this period of time to help strengthen my faith for the things ahead. These pastors are made up of many denominations, but that is put aside as they come together as one. Their love for Christ and the concerns for the brothers and sisters come first. Between them, they have 80 orphaned children without the means to attend school. Reading Lamp sponsors 30 of these kids. Over 70% of the Haitian people can’t read or write. To stop poverty, you need an education.

When walking around the village, you cannot help but notice the absolute poverty and despair they live in. I assumed we would be welcomed with open arms. How absolutely blind and arrogant on my part to think that our integrity and character would be questioned. We never thought about how badly abused and mistreated these people have been and just plain hurt too many times because of false claims they were led to believe.

Despite the emotional mistrust these people have gone through over the years, they understand the love of Jesus Christ and hold fast. The pastors have been exploited in the past and will not allow it to happen again. This is one of the reasons we don9 show pictures of kids eating out of dump sites or people begging in the streets.

There are to many positive things taking place there. The holy sprit has open many doors for us. It would be my pleasure to introduce you to these spirit filled people.

One of the main concerns brought to our attention is three of the pastors have not been able to finish building their churches and school rooms, for one reason or the other. If you would like to build a church or a school. And met with these pastors personally, please contact us.

Our youth ministry needs help with many of the projects that we are involved in.

This is one of the pastors at his church / school.

If you are truly interested in mission work, and you have a call to go into the field, either with a team that is already assembled or starting your own group, I am looking forward to meeting you.
